udio: We won’t shield any criminal in NDC – Asiedu Nketia speaks on Kumasi shooting
General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said his party will not shield any criminal within the NDC.
According to him, the law will take its course and deal with anybody in connection with the violence.
His comments follow gunshots which were fired a meeting which was being chaired by the Mr Nketia at the party’s Ashanti Regional office in Kumasi, Monday.
The incident happened during an altercation between at least one of the victims and the shooter.
According to an eye witness, the assailant, associated with an NDC militia, the Hawks, shot at the victim thrice – first, in the leg while he ran and twice in the chest at close range.
The man whose identity is yet to be confirmed was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but has died.
A statement from the party has confirmed the shooting and death.
Eyewitnesses say the meeting has regrouped with the aim of resolving the differences between the party kingpins.
But General Mosquito of the NDC as he is affectionately called on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Monday said as chairman of the meeting he had no idea who could have committed such act.
He said snippets of information he gathered on the grounds revealed that some men on Motorbike, wielding guns attacked a gathering outside, shot indiscriminately and sped off.
He said has urged the Ghana Police service to activate its investigative machinery to apprehend the culprits regardless of the assailants’ status.
Asked if the assailant was associated with the Hawks, Mosquito said “I wouldn’t know but we went there because we had information that some people are planning some confusion during the flagbearership race,” he said
