OFFICIAL: NFF appoints Finidi George as new Super Eagles head coach
The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Enyimba FC coach George Finidi as the new Super Eagles head coach.
The former Super Eagles winger will succeed José Peseiro after the Portuguese gaffer left his role after the 2023 African Cup of Nations in February.
Finidi was initially appointed as an interim coach for last month’s international friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.
Prior to that, the former Ajax winger spent 20 months as assistant manager to former Super Eagles gaffer José Peseiro.
His first assignment will be to lead the team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying series against South Africa and Benin in June.
“George, a member of the so-styled ‘Golden Generation’ that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tunisia and emerged as the second most entertaining team in Nigeria’s debut at the FIFA World Cup finals in USA the same year, won 62 caps for Nigeria, including featuring at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals,” the NFF statement read.
