“I wasn’t kidnapped; mum maltreated me so I left home” – Pig Farm girl
Charity Dua, a 19-year-old girl whose father reported that she had been kidnapped has said she was not abducted but voluntarily left home to stay with a male friend at Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 29 January 2019, Charity, a student of La PRESEC, said she was constantly maltreated by her mother at home.
Therefore, out of frustration, she decided to leave home.
Her father, Mr Agyeman Dua, had earlier narrated on the same show that Charity had been abducted since 19 December 2019.
The matter was reported to the Kotobabi Police, but according to Mr Dua, no significant results were achieved.
It is now clear that his daughter deliberately left home.
“I was not kidnapped,” Charity told show host Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don).
“I left home to live with my friend where I thought I could get some peace of mind from the harassment and maltreatment I received from my mother at home. At a point, I asked if, indeed, that was my mother because I could not understand some of her utterances against me at home.”
She stressed: “I was not kidnapped, I left home on my own and decided to return home.
“Surprisingly, while I was with my friend I never heard in the news that I had been kidnapped although I am being told that the announcement was made in the media.”
Meanwhile, her mother, Margret Agyeman Dua has denied maltreating Charity at home.
She explained that she meted out disciplinary action when necessary and that cannot constitute maltreatment.
“It is not true that I maltreated her at home. I punished her whenever she went wrong and I will continue as part of my parental obligations,” she said.
