The Executive Chairman of McDan group, who is also the Gugba Naa of Tamale, Dr Daniel Mckorley has donated cash and assorted gifts worth Gh¢50 000 to the Mion Lana towards the celebration of the Damba festival.

Present at the brief but impressive ceremony to make the presentation was Mr Farouk Aliu Mahama, who is the Mion Zongo Naa.

The Gugba Naa, McDan further pledged to invest millions of Ghana cedis into development of agribusiness to help create wealth and jobs for the youth in the northern region.

The Mion Lana expressed his profound appreciation to the Gugba Naa for his kind gesture and love and further pledged to release lands to support the agribusiness agenda of the Gugba Naa.

The Damba festival is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Nalerigu, Tamale, and Wa in the Northern, North East, Savannah and Upper Regions of Ghana.

The name is damba in Dagbani, Damma in Mampruli and Jingbenti in Waali. The festival is celebrated in the Dagomba lunar month of Damba, corresponding to the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabia al-Awwal. Damba is celebrated to mark the birth and naming of Muhammad, but the actual content of the celebration is a glorification of the chieftaincy, not specific Islamic reasons.
