Aburi road opened after Friday’s mudslide – NADMO
Motorists heading to Aburi this morning can use the Peduase Lodge-Ayi Mensah road as the road has been opened to traffic.
The police created a diversion after Friday afternoon’s rains caused a mudslide on the stretch.
Communications Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation, George Ayisi told GhanaWeb in a telephone interview that, they worked around the clock to ensure the road is opened by Saturday morning.
He said the steel mesh put over the slope in 2016 was an initiative to prevent such occurrences.
Mr Ayisi added that technical experts are at the scene of the incident to ascertain the cause of the mudslide, after which they can determine the best way to prevent a recurrence.
“We’ve just finished with the clearing and technical experts are on the field reviewing the incident to be able to ascertain what actually the cause is… I’ll be able to say authentically what it is when I see the final report based on the experts’ assessment,” he said.
He noted that no casualty – neither vehicular nor human – was recorded in the incident.
