VIDEO: Man, 22, dies while trying to retrieve GHc300 from well
Residents of Meduma 80 in the Kwabere East District of the Ashanti Region were left flustered on Monday when the Fire Service pulled out the lifeless body of a 22-year–old young man from a dry well.
The timely intervention of the Fire Service also helped in the rescue of another man who had attempted to save the deceased but also ended up trapped in the pit.
The deceased had attempted to retrieve 300 cedis which his mother had dropped while throwing garbage into the abandoned pit measuring as deep as six culverts.
Abusua FM’s Desmond Adjei reported that the abandoned well had become a dumping site for household rubbish after the contractors failed to hit the water.
Eyewitnesses narrated that the deceased Bright Owoahene Acheampong popularly called Akwasi Broni was warned by his mother not to attempt to get into the pit to retrieve the cash.
The mother who was preparing to go to church had to call for help from neighbors when her son’s screams from the trench drew her attention to the accident.
The Fire Station from Mampongteng conducted the rescue exercise and rushed the rescuer who was pulled out weak to the hospital.
The deceased is said to be an old student of the Kumasi Technical Institute.
