(PHOTOS): Minority MPs’ Ghana cards “fake” – Apaak

Builsa South MP Dr Clement Apaak has described as fake, Ghana cards of some Minority MPs that have been circulated on social media.

The cards are of Bawku Central MP Isaac Adongo, Builsa North MP James Agalga, Juaboso MP Kwabena Mintah Akando and Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak.

Disclaiming the cards, Dr Apaak wrote on his Facebook wall that: “FakeGhanaCards – To think that the NIA and by extension Government, will fraudulently clone and use pictures and information of some members of the NDC minority from the parliament website to create and circulate FAKE Ghana cards is beyond belief!

“We have boycotted the card and that is it? If you want us on board add the voters ID as a primary ID for registration. Why will a state institution engage in such an act of fraud to deceive the people of Ghana? Is it not shocking that this is happening under an NIA boss, Prof. Attafuah, a lawyer, a human rights lawyer! This act of fraud is unforgivable. My colleagues whose images and information have used must sue the NIA without delay! Kai, you do this and want us to believe Nyantakyi was bragging?” he said.

A member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko tweeted that two of his friends in the opposition NDC had received their cards but later deleted the tweet and replaced it with another which read: “I’m told those NIA IDs with Minority MPs are fake. Not cool. Ignore them.”

On Saturday, social media was flooded with pictures of the cards supposedly belonging to the NDC MPs even though the Minority Caucus has boycotted the ongoing registration.

According to them, a planned meeting to receive a briefing from the National Identification Authority (NIA) about the entire exercise and its cost has not been done, thus, their boycott.

They are also rejecting the registration process because only birth certificates and passports are being used.

A statement signed by Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said: “We remain opposed to the restriction of identification requirements for registration to Passports and Birth Certificates. Our analysis show that this will prevent about 23 million Ghanaians from obtaining the Ghana Card and deprive them of any benefit thereof.”
