MP kicks against exclusion of RME from basic school curriculum
The government of Ghana has been cautioned against the exclusion of Religious and Moral Studies (RME) from the curriculum of basic education as a subject of study.
Member of Parliament for Banda constituency, Ahmed Ibrahim who is raising the red flag says the move will increase the level of immorality in Ghana.
According to the Politician, the very foundation of the country’s spirituality will collapse if Ghanaians don’t protest against the move.
“Even with the study of the subject, there are the phenomena of vigilantes, lesbians, and gays not to talk of the complete absence of its study,” he said on Asempa FM’s late afternoon political talk show, Ekosi Sen.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has, in the state of the nation’s address, revealed that there will be changes in the curriculum for pupils from kindergarten to class 6.
The new curriculum, according to the President, has drawn upon the best practices from all over the world and will focus on making Ghanaian children confident, innovative, creative-thinking, digitally-literate, well-rounded, patriotic citizens.
“Mathematics, Science, Reading, Writing and Creativity are, therefore, at the heart of this new curriculum,” he said.
