LPG Operators Strike: Taxi Drivers, Consumers Queue For Gas in Kumasi
The ongoing strike by the LPG operators in the country has left some drivers and consumers no choice but to travel long district in search of gas for domestic and commercial activities in the country.
Otec News reporters Kwame Agyenim Boateng and Yvonne Osei after visiting some gas stations in the Kumasi Metropolis on Wednesday morning reported that some stations were closed while others were opened but were not serving queued customers.
The Ghana LPG operators Association as part of a protest against the cylinder recirculation policy by government declared an indefinite strike on August 20, 2019.
The Association which wants the government to shun the gas recirculation policy said over 7, 000 people would be rendered jobless should they implement the policy.
Visits at private LPG stations in the Kwadaso municipality such as Louis Gas, Diasempa Gas and Tonis Gas refused to serve customers, forcing them to go home with empty cylinders.
Some taxi drivers in an interview with Otec News said the strike action would have dire consequences on their business since a number of taxis in the town ran on gas.
Domestic users said they would resort to charcoal and fire-woods in place of unavailability of the LPG gas.
LPG gas consumers have however called on the government to resolve the issue with the LPG operators to avert any problems.
