Dagomba Line slum conflict: 120 suspects granted bail
The Asokore Mampong District Court has granted bail to 120 suspects who were arrested in connection with the bloody clashes that happened at Dagomba Line in the Asokore Mampong municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, comprising 18 females and 102 males, were each admitted to a bail bond of GHS5,000 with one surety.
They were charged with rioting with weapons contrary to Section 199 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29) of 1960.
They are to reappear before the court presided over by Her Worship Portia Molly Anarfo Salia (Mrs) on 29 July 2019.
There was heavy security when the suspects were bussed to court with a police escort on Tuesday, 16 July 2019.
Two factions on Thursday, 11 July 2019 clashed at Dagomba Line over a piece of land in the slum.
Fifteen people sustained gunshot and machete wounds while structures were set ablaze.
Several properties were also destroyed.
Police and military personnel have since been stationed at the slum to ensure peace and order.
The spokesperson for the Dagombas, Abubakar Aminu Champang, in an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah, advised the suspects against involving themselves in such problems because the bail granted them does not mean the case has ended.
