Country music icon Kenny Rogers dies at 81
Legendary country music singer and songwriter Kenny Rogers died Friday night, according to representatives. He was 81.
“Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family,” Rogers’ spokesman Keith Hagan said in a written statement.
Hits including “The Gambler,” “Lucille,” “Lady,” and “Islands in the Stream” highlighted a career that spanned more than six decades.
“Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on the history of American music,” Hagan said. “His songs have endeared music lovers and touched the lives of millions around the world.”
The Country Music Hall of Fame member’s accomplishments included 21 number-one hits, three Grammy Awards, the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award and the CMT Artist of a Lifetime Award in 2015. “They look forward to celebrating Kenny’s life publicly with his friends and fans at a later date.”
