MyNewsGh.com has intercepted latest images of recuperating Sergeant Atta Mahama of the SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service who was recently brutalized by some residents of Amasaman, a suburb of Accra.

A video went viral revealing how the angry residents subjected the uniformed policeman to severe beatings leaving him with various degrees of injuries and a swollen face over what is yet to be ascertained.

According to a section of residents, the helpless cop was rescued by some elders of the community as the youth including women were pummeling him with life-threatening objects which left him bleeding from the nose.

The Amasaman Divisional Police Command has revealed that  20 suspects were arrested and screened and those found to have engaged in the act are currently being arraigned before court and charged for various offences condemning the upsurge in police brutality in recent times.

It would be recalled that in March this year, another video viral on social media in which an angry mob descended on policeman subjecting him to severe punches in similar fashion.

In the said video, the policeman in a helmet was seen in the less than one-minute exchanging blows with his attackers who were punching him as he tried to defend himself with the voice of bystanders asking persons trying to separate the fight to allow the law enforcer to receive some sound beatings.

Meanwhile, Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has condemned the brutal assault on a policeman, stating that to assault a man in uniform in such a manner is an indictment on our society and totally unjustifiable.

“It is painful the extent to which a policeman was badly beaten to the point that you could hardly see his eyes. What could have justified that? What stopped us from literally arresting him if the situation warranted it and leading him to a police station?

“To disrespect a ‘lawman’ and to even go as far as to assault him to the extent that was done was going too far,” the former President said.
