Popular crossdresser and socialite Idris Okuneye better known as Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The crossdresser who was arrested and arraigned in court for abusing the naira notes was given this sentence without any option of a fine.

In her ruling, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court of Lagos stated that the ruling would act as a warning to those who enjoy misusing and disfiguring naira notes.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed six counts of charge against Bobrisky which resulted in his arrest on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

The crossdresser was later arraigned on Friday, April 5, 2024, before Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

During his arraignment in court on Friday, the court struck out counts 5 and 6 leaving counts 1 to 4.

Bobrisky’s lawyer in their recent court hearing pleaded that the crossdresser had turned a new leaf and urged the judge to grant him a non-custodial sentence and an option of a fine.

With the conviction, Bobrisky could have either served six months in prison, paid a fine of N50,000 or did both, but luck did not shine on him as he wasn’t given a fine option.

Section 21 (1) of the CBN Act 2007 states that “a person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the Bank is guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable for imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less than N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment.”
