‘Barca’ Players Killed By Lightning
Messi-less lightning strikes Chiengi team, ECL mourns FIVE players, two of them brothers, from a local amateur football club with a famous name in Chiengi, Luapula, have been killed by lightning.
The local community was plunged into mourning on Sunday when lightning struck a field the players were cultivating as part of fundraising for their football activities.
President Edgar Lungu, who is in Luapula, led several people in expressing their shock at the unfortunate incident and donated towards the funeral expenses of the five youngsters.
Apart from the five who were killed, five others survived the bolt with burns which they are nursing at their respective homes.
The incident which happened on Sunday around 14:00 hours was confirmed by Chimpunta village headman Dickson Wansambo.
