A 19-year-old student, Charity Dua, who was reported by her parents to have been kidnapped, has said she regrets leaving home.

Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM, Tuesday 29 January 2019, Charity Dua said she was not abducted contrary to media announcements to that effect.

Ms Dua left home on 19 December 2019 and never returned.

The matter was reported to the Kotobabi Police station, but according to Mr Dua, no significant results were achieved.

Eventually, it turned out that Ms Dua deliberately left home to live with a male friend at Dzorwulu, a nearby area from Pig Farm, where she stays with her parents.

The student said she ran away from home because she could not bear the maltreatment meted out to her by her mother.

“I have regretted leaving home. I was not kidnapped, I went to live with a man at Dzorwulu. He is not my boyfriend. I met him at an office opposite my house where they operate a lotto agency. I didn’t feel loved, I felt I was being mistreated at home. I willingly went to stay with him.”

“He actually asked me to go back home, but I refused and he was scared of letting me go in case I do not go home and end up elsewhere.”

According to her, she “missed her parents, and decided to go back home.”

Meanwhile, Charity’s father, Mr Agyeman Dua has expressed his appreciation to Class Media Group (CMG) and Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Mrs Cynthia Morrison, for their support.

Mr Dua said: “I am so happy today that my daughter is back.”
