Audio: Drug Abuse: SHS students now mixing ‘shito’ with weed – NACOB
A lot of students are consuming cannabis through their hot pepper sauce (shito) in school, the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has revealed.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NACOB, Nana Nkwanta Bisa, because marijuana is less expensive and accessible, it is the most commonly abused drug by young people.
“We have realised that most students in the boarding school have resorted to adding wee to their pepper source,” he stated on Accra based Neat FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
The PRO urged parents to take interest in what their wards consume while in school.
To him, failure by parents to take care of their wards is the reason many students are resorting to unscrupulous vendors whose products are mixed with illegal and dangerous substances.
He said just recently, officials of NACOB destroyed some eight tonnes – one million cedis worth of marijuana and cannabis following a court directive.
Young people, the PRO opined, constitute majority of drug abusers, a situation he described as serious, especially when the youth are the future workforce of the country.
He, therefore, urged parents to monitor the activities of their children to prevent falling prey to those social vices.
