Adisadel College set to boil again as Board and GES collide

Published

The Board of Governors of Adisadel College have set the tone for what is expected to be a long fight between them and the Ghana Education Service.

This is because the board has rejected a new candidate being proposed for the school by the (GES) as a headmaster.

A statement issued by the Board and signed by the Anglican Bishop of Cape Coast and Chairman of the Adisadel College Board of Governors, Rt Rev. Dr Victor Reginald Atta-Baffoe has given a nine-point ground on which it has rejected the GES’s decision.

PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF ADISADEL COLLEGE ON ISSUES AFFECTING ADISADEL COLLEGE-4TH MARCH, 2019

The Board of Governors of Adisadel College met today Monday 4th March, 2019 and resolved as follows:

  1. The Board rejects the Ghana Education Service reasons for its reported statement requesting the Headmaster of the School to hand over to another candidate.
  2. The statement released to the Daily Graphic and published on 1st March. 2019 does not reflect the conclusions reached at various meetings with the Minister of Education and the Director-General of GES: to the effect that Mr. William Kusi Yeboah would be reinstated with a caution.
  3. The GES did not follow due process in the selection of a headmaster for Adisadel College which traditionally has included consultations with the Anglican Church and the Board.
  4. The charged published in the Daily Graphic against Mr. Kusi Yeboah that he issued directives to de-register two of his students for the WAEC because they posed a threat to school is not true; rather Mr. Kusi Yeboah disciplined a students who drew a knife in an attempt to stab a security personnel on the school and wrote to the WAEC for the student to write his WASSCE at the WAEC Examination center.
  5. The reason stated in the press release did not constitute adequate grounds for the prescribed penalty
  6. The fact that the GES statement requires any nominated headmaster to be responsible to the GES through the Board of Governors befits the GES total disregard for the current Board of Governors in matters affecting the school.
  7. The Board has decided to pursue its previous resolution to petition His Excellency the President for a final determination of the case.
  8. The Board of Governors has taken a further decision that irrespective of the resolution not to accept the GES directive on the faith of the headmaster until a final determination of the case, the school speech and prize-giving day slated for Saturday, 9th March, will take place as planned. The Board is happy to welcome HIS Excellency the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as special guest of honour.
  9. We are equally proud to welcome all Santaclausians, especially the 1994 year group which is sponsoring the speech day and donating six-bedroom, two units bungalow for members of staff.

Long Live Adisadel College

Issued on behalf of Board of Governors

Signed:

Rt Rev. Dr. Victor Reginald Atta-Baffoe

Anglican Bishop of Cape Coast/Chairman, Adisadel College Board of Governors
