A/R: sofoline commercial drivers regulated under GHs 200 spot fine

Authorities of Sofoline Transport Union Association plus Kwadaso Municipal Assembly will from today  29th January 2019 fine  drivers caught loading and off- loading passengers within the traffic lane and on the shoulders of the Sunyani high way in front of the lorry terminal.
The foregoing areas according to authorities are unapproved and that all private and commercial vehicles (registered or not registered under Sofoline Transport Union Association) according the new regulation jointly issued by the duo are to off load within the lorry terminal, after which move out by the exit route to their respective destinations.
Drivers who violate the directive will be made to pay a spot fine of GHs 200 and that failure to make payment will attract a court action against the defaulter.

This exercise has been set in motion  with the support of authorities of Ashanti regional Road Safety Commission and personnel of MTTU.
The objective as disclosed by the Chairman of the transport union Mr. Albert Boamah is to ensure strict adherence to road safety regulations, promote vehicular sanity on the Sunyani highway and reduce the occurrence of accident.
 It is on record that eight pedestrians were run over by a long journey track on the shoulders of the traffic lane infront of the terminal two years ago at a time the area was so much congested with commercial vehicles.
Per authorities’ new line of action, no trader under this code will be permitted to trade at the area in question.
This code was announced during the holding of a road safety  sensitization programme organized by executives of Sofoline Transport Union Association.
Speaking during the event, Ashanti Regional Road Safety Commission Manager Madam Simbiat Wiredu challenged commercial drivers to ensure that they are registered under a transport organisation and adhere to all road safety regulations as required by law.
Drivers she advised must stop and load at approved areas, adding that compliance to road safety codes will reduce to the barest minimum the number of road accidents recorded yearly.
Adding his voice, Chief Executive Officer for Kwadaso Municipal Assembly stressed that no driver will be spared if caught since the assembly is determined to ensure that the regulation is enforced without mercy.
“All drivers who try turning the area into a loading center and those who violate traffic light orders will be dealt with squarely” he warned.
