The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the governing council of the University of Education Winneba, Professor Nicholas Abakah.

UTAG has also called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the impasse at the University.

It is the latest in a string of developments that have followed the violent students’ demonstration which resulted in the indefinite shutdown of the University.

UTAG which had earlier called for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor Professor Afful Bronie, is now calling on the Ministry of Education, EOCO and the Special Prosecutor to launch a full scale probe into the allegations of victimization levelled against the Vice Chancellor.

UTAG wants a neutral person to take over the running of the school until all the issues are resolved.

Addressing Journalists Tuesday, Dr Eric Opoku, National UTAG President said UTAG will take further action if its demands are not met.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has rejected justifications by UEW management over the promotion of council chair, Prof. Abakah to professorship status.

Management of the University denied suggestions it side stepped laid down procedures in the promotion process arguing the University’s statutes was revised in 2017.

PRO of the university, Ernest Azutiga told Starr News the statutes offers staff of the university an advantage they had been denied.

But according to the minority the latest action by management of the university is only a reward system for its loyalists.
