Stephen Appiah dreams of coaching Black Stars, Hearts of Oak
Former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah says he’s open to the idea of coaching the team in the future when he’s done with acquiring the necessary qualifications and experience.
Appiah who is also a former Hearts of Oak player says he would love to gain that coaching experience with his former club before aiming at climbing up the ladder.
Known in his playing days as ‘Tornado’, Appiah played for the Black Stars from the early 2000’s and captained the side to a first ever world cup appearance in 2006. He also featured although mostly on the periphery in 2010 when South Africa hosted the Mundial. He eventually called it quit with the national team after the South Africa world cup experience.
At club level, Appiah who had an illustrious spell abroad with the likes of Galatasaray, Juventus, Parma and the likes started at Accra based Hearts of Oak.
After hanging his boots somewhere in 2012, many have speculated about the next step for Appiah. He has served as team manager for the Black Stars in the last 2 years.
Appiah has revealed he has set sights on a coaching career and is eyeing a stint with the Black Stars and his former club, Hearts of Oak.
He said, “It’s always good to start from somewhere, I am not rushing to coach the senior national team, I have to get the experience.
“So to get the experience from somewhere, why not join Accra Hearts of Oak, I will learn under the Hearts of Oak coach.
“And If I have the chance to handle the U-17, that’s where I would start from”, he continued
