SOTN2020: We have overcome dumsor – Akufo-Addo declares
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced an end to the erratic power supply the country has been experiencing over the past years.
According to the president, his government has taken necessary steps in making sure the deals and agreements have been signed to ensure that Ghanaians enjoy stable power supply.
“It gives me great pleasure to say that we have overcome the ‘dumsor’ menace,” he declared.
He said the erratic power outages which caused nuisance amongst the populace were partly as a result of the take and pay system which piled heavy debt burden on the government.
However, he admitted that not all the problems in the power sector have been addressed but his government is committed to maintaining the gains made so far.
This year’s State of the Nation Address is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s fourth and last in his first term as president of the republic.
His address is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
The address is to update Ghanaians on the government’s progress and outline plans for the next financial year.
The president’s speech covers, in broad terms, areas such as the economy, education, health, security and infrastructure.
