President Nana Akufo-Addo has charged the Ghana Police Service to fast-track the implementation of the report put together by the inter-ministerial committee tasked to investigate the cause of road accidents following the deadly crash which claimed the life of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns, known in private as Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, in 2018.

Mr Akufo-Addo revealed that the report was ready and had input from the Police Council, adding that he expects immediate action to curb road accidents.

The inter-ministerial committee included the Minister for the Interior; the Minister of Roads and Highways; and the Minister of Transport.

Speaking at the annual end-of-year get-together of the West Africa Security Service Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service on Friday, 22 March 2019, Mr Akufo-Addo said: “As the police is the institution charged with the regulation of traffic on our roads, it is my hope that the recommendations will be speedily acted upon and outdoored as soon as possible”.

His comments come in the wake of an accident which claimed at least 57 lives in the early hours of Friday. Scores of passengers on two huge buses, one, a VVIP bus and the other, an old bus, perished in the ghastly head-on collision that happened on the Techiman-Kintampo road around 4 a.m. on Friday at Ampomakrom within the Pamdu Electoral Area of the Bono East Region.
