The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called on the British government to invest in Ghana.

Otumfuo made the call when the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace.

Prince Charles and his wife also participated in the celebration of the Akwasidee Festival on Sunday, 4 October 2018.

The Asante monarch said there are tremendous opportunities for collaboration that will yield mutual benefits to the United Kingdom (UK) and Ghana.

Otumfuo, said Ghana is committed to development and “I dare say that Britain can no longer walk away from the challenge of economic development of Ghana”.

“To make sense of our history and the bonds that tie us together, you must have the courage to invest in the growth of our economy.

“This nation is at war with our brains. It’s at war against poverty, illiteracy and disease. It’s a war we must win and we want our friends to be on our side through your investment,” Otumfuo told Prince Charles.

He further described the visit by the Prince of Wales as historic and indicated that it underscores the cordial and friendly relations that exist between British and Asante monarchs.

Otumfuo also used the occasion to wish the Prince a happy birthday in advance.

On his part, Prince Charles said he found it prudent to pay homage to Otumfuo at his palace due to the bond between the Asante Kingdom and Britain.

He commended Otumfuo for his warmth welcome to the Manhyia Palace.
