Over 40 acres of rice farm destroyed by flood
At least 40 acres of rice fields have been destroyed by a downpour at Etwereso in the Akyemansa district of the Eastern region.
Heavy downpour over the weekend caused flooding in several parts of the region with the worse hit being the Akyemansa district.
According to the farmers, the destruction of their farms has the potential to cause rice shortage.
Some of the farmers who spoke to Class FM explained that the rice have gotten to maturity stage and would have been harvested in a few days if not for the rains.
They said the development was frustrating as they need to pay back loans they acquired from banks in order to farm. They are calling on government and other agencies to intervene to help the deal with the situation.
