VIDEO: Massive demolition at Madina leaves hundreds homeless and without workplaces

At Madina, a suburb of Ghana’s capital Accra, destruction of buildings deemed illegal by the local authorities have left hundreds without a place to live or do business.

Information presently available to YEN.com.gh has it that the local assembly at La-Madina Nkwantanang has demolished property and buildings housing them at Madina because authorities deem those building illegally sited.

Madina is one of the biggest and most populated suburbs in Accra. It comes to observers as little surprise that local authorities have taken the drastic decision of demolition.

UTV Ghana posted on their Instagram feed around 8 in the morning of April 24, 2019, a short video of the demolition process as well as some reactions from victims.

One woman in the UTV Ghana video cried: “Where am I taking my things now? Where am I going? The president must intervene in this.

Why did they [the local authority] do this to us? They said nothing to us before the demolition.”

Facts and details are yet to proceed from the office of the local municipal assembly. YEN.com.gh will keep readers updated on any developments.

Meanwhile, a video sighted by YEN.com.gh on Ghanaweb.com shows a man, supposedly a guide at the famous Adomi Bridge, hassling with some other people over what appears to be a quarrel on whether these other people should pay for taking photos at the bridge.

The report, initially carried by Ghbase.com, sees the supposed guide whose identity is yet to be identified, in a heated argument with folks who may be referred to as tourists.

The video showed the tourists voicing their sentiments on why the guide charges an amount of money and doubts on whether the authorities have given him the right to that effect.
