Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has revealed that the real reason for the shambolic performance of African countries at the Russia 2018 World cup was as a result of corruption.

Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin is affiliated with the opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC).

All of the five African countries exited from the group stages of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1982.

“Systemic corruption in Africa means that most people who are more qualified to be selected into our national teams do not get the opportunity,” said Bagbin.

“Team slots are sold to the highest bidders.

“You may get away with it in your little corner, but when you reach a place like the World Cup where others have only selected their players on merit, you will be exposed,” he said during an interaction with journalists in Accra, the capital of Ghana, on July 3.

Nigeria and Senegal lost the spot to the knockout phase after the final matches of the group stages while Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco were all kicked out after the second round of games.
