Otumfuo dissolves Asante Hemaa’s court over corruption claims
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has dissolved the Asante Hemaa’s court following convictions that chiefs who sit on the court are corrupt.
The Otumfuo has noted that he will bring a team of chiefs he trusts to continue running the court at the appropriate time adding that any unauthorized chief who sits at the court without his authorization will be arrested.
Meanwhile, Asafohene Acheamfour Kwame Akowuah II has been suspended from attending Manhyia traditional meetings. His traditional roles in the Asante Kingdom have also been suspended over his role in handling some cases in the Palace which Otumfuo is reportedly not comfortable with.
This development has created fear among chiefs who have not been cleared to handle chieftaincy and land litigation issues in the region.
The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has commended Otumfuo for the bold step saying “members of the Asante Youth Association are very grateful to Otumfuo for the bold step. We are aware of the behavior of some of our respected chiefs and we are happy Otumfuo has also seen it and has taken a right decision in fighting corruption.
“I have seen the anxiety in the palace after the news broke. Those who are not clean are worried and afraid of Otumfuo’s anger “.
