One Arrested In NPP, NDC Clash At Sung

One Alhassan Abukari has been arrested by the Karaga district police in connection with the clash between supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Sung in the Karaga district of the Northern region.

The suspect was arrested at the premises of the Karaga police station when he chased another person during the clash.

It is alleged that a locally manufactured pistol was retrieved from the suspect when he was arrested.

Six persons are said to be in critical condition due to the clash.

DGN Online gathered that confusion erupted between supporters of NPP and NDC at a rally in Sung. The supporters reportedly inflicted cutlass wounds on each other.

The injured persons are Zakaria Aminu, Sulemana Musah, Abdulai Aminu, Haruna Abdulai, Musah Abdul Razak and Tia Abdul Rahman.

The victims were sent to the Karaga district hospital for treatment.

Both NPP and NDC in the district have accused each other for initiating the clash.

The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Supt Bernard Baba Ananga, told the media that the police were on a manhunt to arrest perpetrators of the Karaga clash between the NPP and NDC.

He indicated that some persons have been identified but they were at large adding that the police is making efforts to get an arrest warrant to pursue them.

Supt Ananga, however, revealed that police has beefed up security in the Karaga district to protect lives and property.
