Introducing French at upper primary; Commendable – Educationist

An Educationist, Mr Richard Akwasi Asante, has commended Government for it’s decision to introduce French as a subject at the basic level of education particularly at the Upper primary.

 

According to him, the current situation whereby French is only taught at the Junior High School level does not motivate the pupils to learn the subject, leading to what he described as “chew and pour” learning.

 

Speaking to the media, Mr Asante, expressed satisfaction at the current decision which undeniably assist the pupils to get a good foundation of the study of French to gear them towards it’s further study at the Junior and senior High Schools as well as tertiary level.

 

According to him, when introduced, pupils will be able to communicate with peers in French to enhance fluency.

 

He said the study of French is crucial since it will help Ghanaians  to communicate with persons from the neighbouring French countries.

 

 

The educationist also eulogized government for it’s readiness to change the uniforms for basic school.

 

According to him, the uniforms for pupils at the primary level should be different from the students at the junior high to server as a bridge for transition.

 

“When l was in secondary school, our uniforms were different from ‘A’ Level’ students hence motivated us to learn harder to wear such uniforms one day” He said.

 

Mr Asante urged government to provide adequate teaching and learning materials to supplement efforts toward enhancing quality basic education in the country.
