Ghana’s National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has launched an interactive website designed to make vaccine information and related services more accessible to the public.
The new platform is expected to strengthen communication between the institute and the public while providing users with useful information about vaccines and vaccination services. The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the NVI to use technology and innovation to improve public engagement.
According to NVI Executive Director Dr Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, the website was developed to provide the public with a reliable source of information about the institute’s activities and vaccine-related issues.
One of the key features of the platform is a system that allows members of the public to report adverse effects following vaccination.
Users can provide details including the vaccine they received, the date of vaccination and the symptoms they experienced. After submitting a report, the system generates a tracking number that allows users to follow up on the status of their submission and receive feedback.
The platform also includes a vaccine-centre locator, which is intended to help users identify vaccination centres within a specified distance from their location.
This feature could make it easier for people looking for vaccination services to identify nearby facilities without having to rely solely on information from other sources.
Dr Sodzi-Tettey encouraged members of the public to explore the platform and provide feedback on their experience. He said public input would help the institute identify areas where the website and its services could be improved.
The NVI has also established social media platforms to complement the website and provide additional channels through which the institute can communicate with the public.
The launch comes as Ghana continues efforts to strengthen its vaccine and broader health-security systems. The NVI was established to coordinate Ghana’s vaccine development and manufacturing efforts, including research, development and the creation of local manufacturing capacity.
The institute has previously emphasised the importance of public confidence and reliable information as Ghana works towards increasing its capacity to develop and manufacture vaccines locally.
The new website is therefore expected to play a role not only in providing information but also in creating a direct channel for members of the public to raise concerns and interact with the institute.
The introduction of the adverse-event reporting system is particularly significant because it provides a structured way for vaccination-related concerns to be submitted and monitored.
Rather than relying exclusively on social media discussions, users can use the platform to send information directly to the relevant institution and receive a tracking reference for their reports.
The initiative reflects the increasing use of digital platforms by public institutions to improve access to services and strengthen communication with citizens.
The NVI is inviting the public to use the platform, interact with its features and provide feedback as the institute continues to improve its services.
With access to vaccine information, vaccination-centre locations and a reporting mechanism available through one platform, the institute hopes the website will make it easier for Ghanaians to obtain information and engage with its work.
The launch represents another step in the NVI’s efforts to build stronger public engagement around vaccination, vaccine safety and Ghana’s developing vaccine ecosystem.
