WATCH| ‘Who Are You? Thief!’ – Sam George Confronts Military Officer Over Alleged Truck Seizure

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has confronted a military officer over allegations that soldiers unlawfully seized trucks belonging to residents of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

In a video circulating on social media, Sam George is seen angrily addressing Lieutenant Albert Goh, whom he accused of leading armed military personnel into the constituency and taking possession of several trucks without proper authorisation.

The minister described the alleged conduct as unacceptable, accusing the officer and the soldiers involved of intimidating residents and abusing their authority.

According to Sam George, the military personnel allegedly seized the trucks and kept them for approximately two weeks without the consent of their owners or any lawful order authorising the action.

He questioned the officer’s conduct and suggested that the alleged seizure amounted to armed robbery.

“What you did yesterday was akin to armed robbery,” the minister said during the confrontation, before referring to the officer as a thief.

Sam George also warned that any military personnel who returned to Ningo-Prampram to intimidate or brutalise residents would be held accountable.

He insisted that the people of the constituency deserved protection and should not be subjected to harassment by individuals entrusted with maintaining security.

The minister further expressed concern over the alleged treatment of a police commander who reportedly attempted to intervene during the incident.

According to his account, the police commander, who holds the rank of Chief Superintendent, tried to engage the military personnel but was allegedly disrespected by Lieutenant Goh.

Sam George also claimed that some soldiers cocked their weapons at the police commander during the confrontation, questioning why military personnel would behave in such a manner towards a senior police officer.

“Who are you? Is that what you were trained to do in the Ghana Armed Forces?” he asked while challenging the officer.

The minister described the alleged actions as a disgrace to the military uniform and called on the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces to investigate the matter.

He specifically appealed to the Chief of Defence Staff to take disciplinary action against Lieutenant Goh if the allegations were established, including considering his dismissal from the military.

Sam George also disclosed what he identified as the officer’s military identification number, 5666, as he called for accountability over the incident.

He indicated that he would engage the Minister of Defence to ensure that the matter received the necessary attention and that appropriate action was taken against any personnel found to have acted unlawfully.

The confrontation has generated discussions on social media, with reactions focusing on the relationship between the military and civilian authorities, the conduct of security personnel and the need for accountability when allegations of abuse of power arise.

The allegations surrounding the trucks and the treatment of the police commander have not, by themselves, established wrongdoing by the officer or the soldiers involved. An investigation by the appropriate authorities would be required to determine what happened and whether any military personnel breached the law or service regulations.
