The parents of a two-year-old girl have reportedly been arrested after the toddler was allegedly abandoned in a bush at midnight along the Kadawene–Mbradan road near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.
The disturbing incident reportedly happened on Saturday, October 31, 2026, when the child’s mother allegedly left her alone in the bush around midnight.
Residents in the area discovered the little girl on Sunday, November 1, after finding her unattended in the bush. They quickly intervened and arranged for her to receive medical attention.
According to reports by Dunkwa TV, the child’s mother, who is said to be a native of Kadawene, later admitted to abandoning the toddler.
During questioning, the woman reportedly explained that she had no source of income to cater for the child’s needs. She also alleged that the father of the girl had refused to take responsibility for her upkeep, leaving her struggling to provide for the toddler.
Following the incident, both parents were arrested and reportedly placed in police custody to assist with investigations.
The rescued girl was subsequently rushed to the Dunkwa Government Hospital for medical attention. Reports indicated that she was in stable condition after being admitted to the facility.
The incident has raised serious concerns about child welfare and parental responsibility, particularly the safety of young children who depend entirely on their parents and guardians for protection.
Although financial difficulties can create significant challenges for parents, the circumstances surrounding the alleged abandonment have triggered public concern over the decision to leave a two-year-old child alone in a bush during the night.
The father’s alleged refusal to support the child is also expected to form part of the issues surrounding the investigation, as authorities seek to establish the events that led to the toddler being abandoned.
The arrest of both parents is expected to help police establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine whether any offences were committed.
As of the latest available report, details of specific charges against the parents had not been made public.
Meanwhile, the welfare of the rescued toddler remains a major concern as authorities continue their investigations into the disturbing incident.
The case has once again highlighted the importance of protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that those responsible for their care do not expose them to situations that threaten their safety and survival.
