A Kumasi High Court presided over by His Lordship Francis Obiri has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Michael Amoah Awuku.

The appointee according to the warrant sighted by MyNewsGh.com, has been cited for contempt of court contrary to order 50 of CI 47 and faces three months jail

Following the demolition of structures on the Kumasi-Sunyani highway in 2015, the Ghana Highway Authority demolished structures around Abuakwa to pave way for construction and paid huge compensation to victims.

It is however gathered that to date, about 12 of victims were yet to receive their share of compensation despite having their buildings demolished after both parties reached an agreement

The aggrieved parties dragged the Atwima Nwabiagya South assembly to court and in its ruling, directed that the assembly compensates them accordingly.

After several years, the assembly failed to compensate the victims as was directed by the court in its ruling in 2015 leading to the aggrieved residents heading back.

MyNewsGh.com’s court reporters in Ashanti Region revealed that the MCE Michael Amoah Awuku and officials of the assembly were summoned before the court on the matter but refused to show up. The Assembly and the MCE were slapped with a GHC50,000 fine for disrespecting the court.

They had up to December 1, 2021 to pay the fine or a court warrant issued for the arrest and conviction of the MCE of up 3 months in jail.

As of December 2, 2021, there was no record of neither the MCE nor the assembly paying the amount in question prompting the trial judge to issue a warrant for the arrest of Michael Amoah Awuku.
