CEDEP Holds Town Hall Meeting At Asante Akim Municipality

Officials of Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) have organized a town hall meeting for the people of Asante Akim South Municipality of Ashanti region. 

The holding of the event formed part of the execution of a year project dubbed; “PROMOTING CITIZENS’S PARTICIPATION, INCLUSION AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL” within two areas; Bosomtwe District and Asante Akim South Municipality.

The town hall meeting hence the project sought to strengthen citizens’ capacity on social accountability mechanism to effectively engage their local government officials to demand transparency and accountable governance create opportunities and spaces for information sharing on district assembly development projects and performance.

The town hall meeting was clourfuly tinted with the presence of the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Alexander Frimpong, Coordinating Director Mr. Fredrick Agyemang, heads of various departments of the assembly, traditional leaders, religious leaders, committee members, assembly men among others.

The meeting offered an opportunity for participants to question authorities of the assembly on projects executed within the Municipality and also update on the extent at which developmental projects have been executed within the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for the area during his presentation highlighted some executed projects including 330 kilometers of road network graded within the Municipality and the ongoing asphalting of 70 kilometres road network at communities including Banka, Saabo, Bobu, Bompata, Amantia among others.

Mr. Michael Bosomtwe Twum who is the program officer for CEDEP in his address during the occassion touched on what the association is into.

It formed part of CEDEP’s project dubbed; “PROMOTING CITIZEN’S PARTICIPATION, INCLUSION AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL”.

It seeks to strengthen citizens capacity on social accountability mechanisms to efficiently engage with their local government officials to demand transparency and accountable governance, create opportunities and spaces for information sharing on district assembly development projects and performance among others.

He briefed that Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) was established in 1983, aimed at optimizing human potentials to ensure sustainable human development in Ghana.

“Vision is a Society that promotes the social, economic and Civic rights of people in pursuance of equitable and sustainable quality human development.

Mission is to support, facilitate and build the capacity of marginalized , disadvantaged and vulnerable groups to become effective partners and together influence policy in pursuit of sustainable human development in Ghana”.
