Asante Kotoko and Mariano Barreto agree to end relationship – Reports
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko is reported to have reached an agreement with Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto to end their relationship.
The former Black Stars coach is currently in his native country, Portugal, for holidays, after guiding the Porcupine Warriors to a second-place finish in the just-ended Ghana Premier League campaign.
An earlier report in the local media suggested that the 64-year-old has contacted officials of Asante Kotoko to purchase his return ticket to enable him to return to Ghana to commence pre-season training with the club.
But according to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah, has engaged Barreto on an amicable resolution to terminate his contract.
“Mariano Barreto has not asked for a return ticket back to Ghana. In principle, he accepted not to return to Ghana, so he wants an amicable settlement. He spoke to the CEO himself. CEO will inform Board on Thursday and also put before them credentials of Dr Proposer Nartey Ogum,” the reports say.
