VIDEO: Bawumia calls Javits Frimpong’s father to express condolences following teenager’s death in New York

Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reached out to the family of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong to express his condolences following the teenager’s tragic death in the Bronx, New York.

A video circulating on social media on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, captured the former Vice President speaking with the bereaved family over the telephone, offering words of comfort following the painful loss.

During the conversation, Dr Bawumia expressed sympathy to Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, and other family members as they continue to mourn the teenager.

The telephone call reportedly came as an unexpected gesture to the family, who were visibly emotional upon receiving the former Vice President’s message of condolence.

The family expressed surprise at the personal outreach, with members indicating that they could hardly believe that Dr Bawumia had taken time to contact them during their difficult period.

Javits, a 15-year-old student of Ghanaian descent, was fatally shot on October 29, 2026, while reportedly walking to school in the Bronx.

According to reports, the teenager was shot near East 171st Street and Crotona Place. He reportedly managed to run for some distance before collapsing from his injuries.

He was rushed to St Barnabas Hospital, where medical personnel attempted to save his life. However, he was pronounced dead.

His death has generated widespread sadness among Ghanaians both at home and abroad, particularly within the Ghanaian community in the United States.

The incident has also attracted attention from several public figures, political leaders and members of the entertainment industry, who have expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had earlier reached out to the family and assured them of the government’s support. Ghanaian diplomatic officials in New York have also engaged with the family following the tragedy.

Javits’ death has further sparked discussions about gun violence and the safety of young people in the United States.

His classmates at DreamYard Preparatory School previously staged a protest to honour his memory and demand justice. During the demonstration, students carried placards bearing messages such as “Justice for Javits”, “Forever 15” and “Protect Kids, Not Guns”.

The students also raised concerns about bullying and violence affecting young people, describing Javits as a cheerful teenager who was loved by his classmates.

Meanwhile, the New York Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and searching for suspects connected to the killing.

Dr Bawumia’s telephone conversation with the family adds to the expressions of sympathy that have followed the teenager’s death, as relatives and friends continue to seek comfort during their period of mourning.

The family is also hoping that investigations into the incident will establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and lead to justice for the deceased teenager.
