Two hospitalized after attacks by unknown gunmen at Abrewanko

Two persons have been hospitalized after some unknown gunmen invaded Abrewanko near Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region and allegedly engaged in sporadic shootings.

The about seven gunmen believed to be herdsmen also burnt huts and bolted with two motorbikes from the area.

Personnel from the Operation Cowleg team were deployed to the area at about 5 pm on Wednesday to maintain order.

Police and military personnel have since been stationed at the village which is currently deserted.

Nine empty shells were retrieved at the crime scene.

District Chief Executive for Asante Akyem North, Francis Oti Boateng told Citi News police are investigating the case of robbery and invasion by suspected herdsmen.

“At about 5:10 pm I received a distress call that some herdsmen wielding guns have attacked the indigenes of Abrewanko. After receiving the information I called the district police commander and we quickly organized a quick meeting and we dispatched the police and military to Abrewanko.”

He said because they indigenes were not armed, they were able to escape but two of them sustained serious injuries.

He added that they are receiving treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian hospital.

“…They [assailants] also stole two motorbikes belonging to the indigenes. The two people were hurt were also brought to the Agogo hospital and they are responding to treatment,” he added.
