An 81-year-old woman, identified as Nana Afia Achiaa, has died after being attacked by a swarm of bees at Achiase, near Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., leaving residents concerned about the recurring presence of aggressive bees in the community.
According to reports, the elderly woman had left the Achiase palace and gone outside to speak with some people when the swarm attacked her. The circumstances that triggered the attack were not immediately clear.
Residents reportedly attempted to drive the bees away using insecticide spray before rushing the victim to a nearby hospital for medical attention. However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The incident has renewed concerns among residents over the safety risks posed by the bees, which community members say have been a recurring problem in the area.
Reports indicate that the swarm had been disturbing residents for approximately a year, raising questions about the measures taken to address the threat and protect people living in the community.
Achiase has reportedly experienced similar incidents in the past. In 2025, several residents were affected by bee attacks, with reports indicating that dozens of people were stung during earlier occurrences.
The latest fatal incident has intensified calls for attention to the problem, particularly given the potential danger posed to children, elderly people and others who may be unable to escape quickly when attacked.
Bee stings can cause serious medical complications, especially when a person is stung repeatedly or experiences a severe allergic reaction. Swarms may also pose a significant danger when disturbed or when people are unable to move away from them safely.
Residents are expected to seek assistance from the relevant authorities to assess the situation and determine appropriate measures to reduce the risk of further attacks.
The circumstances surrounding Nana Afia Achiaa’s death, including the precise cause and the steps that may be taken to address the recurring bee problem, require further confirmation from the relevant authorities.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responding promptly to reports of dangerous insect swarms and ensuring that communities receive appropriate assistance when public safety is threatened.
