Ghanaian Couple Attacked and Robbed at Gunpoint by Masked Suspects in New York

A Ghanaian couple have reportedly been attacked and robbed at gunpoint by four masked suspects at a bus stop in the Bronx, New York, leaving them traumatised and fearful for their safety.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, along Gun Hill Road, where the 73-year-old man and his 61-year-old wife were waiting for transportation.

According to reports, the couple were approached by four individuals wearing masks and travelling on motorcycles. The suspects allegedly divided themselves into two groups, with two attacking the man while the other two targeted his wife.

The attackers reportedly used guns to assault and threaten the couple during the robbery, creating a frightening experience for the elderly victims.

Their daughter, Emelia Sabah, said her parents were subjected to the attack while carrying out their normal early-morning routine. She explained that the suspects took her mother’s handbag, which contained approximately US$100, a debit card and medication.

Sabah expressed concern about the emotional impact of the incident, particularly on her mother, who reportedly works as a home attendant. She said the experience had left her traumatised and afraid to use public transportation.

The daughter also noted that her mother has 11 grandchildren, adding to the family’s concern about the distress caused by the attack.

The incident has raised concerns among members of the Ghanaian community in New York about the safety of residents who depend on public transportation, especially those who have to travel during early-morning hours for work.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is reportedly investigating the robbery and searching for the four suspects believed to have been involved. No arrests had been reported in the accounts reviewed.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including how the suspects selected their victims and whether they may be connected to other robberies in the area, remain unclear.

The case has also highlighted the vulnerability of people waiting at public transport stops when streets are relatively quiet and fewer people are around to witness or intervene during criminal incidents.

For the affected family, the immediate concern is the recovery of the victims and the restoration of their sense of security following the frightening encounter.

As police continue their investigation, the family and members of the Ghanaian community will be hoping that those responsible are identified and brought before the courts.

The allegations remain subject to the ongoing police investigation, and the identities of the suspects had not been established in the reports available.
