A truck transporting Kalyppo drinks and biscuits from Accra to Paga has overturned and caught fire on the Accra-Kumasi Highway near Frims Fuel Station at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, involving a MAN diesel truck with registration number GE-1393-P. Two male occupants sustained injuries and were taken to Nsawam Hospital for medical treatment.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the truck reportedly hit a pothole, veered off the road and overturned before catching fire.
Firefighters from the Nsawam Fire Station responded to the incident and worked to bring the blaze under control. Their intervention helped contain the fire, although the truck sustained significant damage.
The two injured occupants were conveyed to Nsawam Hospital for treatment. Their identities and conditions were not immediately disclosed in the available report.
The GNFS estimated the damage to the truck at approximately GH¢600,000, while the value of property salvaged from the incident was estimated at GH¢200,000.
The reported involvement of a pothole has drawn attention to road conditions along the highway and the potential risks they pose to motorists, particularly drivers transporting commercial goods over long distances.
Potholes and other road defects can force drivers to make sudden manoeuvres or lose control of their vehicles, especially when travelling at speed or carrying heavy loads. However, the precise circumstances surrounding this particular crash would need to be established through the relevant investigations.
The incident also highlights the importance of vehicle maintenance, appropriate driving speeds and caution when navigating damaged sections of road.
The fire service’s preliminary account identified the pothole as a contributing factor, but a full assessment would be needed to establish the circumstances that led to the truck overturning and catching fire.
The incident caused damage to the vehicle and left two people requiring medical attention. Further updates from the relevant authorities may provide additional information about the victims and the outcome of any investigation.
