The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region that claimed the life of a 30-year-old mobile money vendor.
The arrests follow weeks of investigations into the deadly incident, which occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at a mobile money vending point within the Gomoa Dominase community. The attack shocked residents and traders in the area after armed robbers targeted the vendor during the robbery operation, resulting in his death while another victim sustained injuries.
According to the police, intelligence gathered during investigations led officers to a major breakthrough after an iPhone 13 Pro belonging to the deceased was detected as having been activated. The discovery enabled investigators to trace the movement of the stolen device and identify persons allegedly connected to it.
Police subsequently arrested the first suspect, Isaac Baffoe, also known as Kwame Cheddo, at Kwesimintsim in Takoradi in the Western Region on June 26, 2026. During a search conducted by officers, the stolen iPhone 13 Pro belonging to the deceased was reportedly recovered from his possession.
Investigators stated that the phone had allegedly been concealed inside an iPhone 17 protective case together with several mobile phone accessories. The recovery of the device became a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation into the robbery and murder case.
During interrogation, police said Isaac Baffoe allegedly led investigators to a second suspect, Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician who also operates in the Kwesimintsim area.
According to the police investigation, Baidoo admitted to replacing several internal components of the stolen phone, including its motherboard, Face ID system and camera sensors, for a fee of GH¢2,650.
A follow-up search at the residence of the second suspect reportedly resulted in the recovery of a box containing the original motherboard, Face ID components and camera sensors that had been removed from the deceased’s phone.
The police indicated that both the recovered iPhone and its original and replacement components have been retained as exhibits to support the ongoing criminal investigation.
The two suspects have since been arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court, where they are being held as investigations continue. Police have not indicated that the case has concluded, stressing that further work is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have played roles in the robbery.
The Central East Regional Police Command has also assured the public that efforts have been intensified to locate the remaining members of the robbery gang as well as anyone suspected of being involved in handling the stolen property.
Residents and members of the public have been encouraged to assist the investigation by providing credible information that could help police make additional arrests and ensure justice is served in the case.
The robbery remains one of the major criminal incidents recorded at Gomoa Dominase in recent months, with police maintaining that they are committed to pursuing everyone connected to the attack while continuing investigations into the fatal robbery.
