The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six people suspected of being members or associates of an organised armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the region.
The arrests were carried out by the Ashanti Regional Police Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in August 2026 as part of an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting robbery-related activities and dismantling criminal networks.
According to the police, preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to several reported robbery incidents recorded in different communities across the Ashanti Region.
The areas mentioned in connection with the reported incidents include Kaase, Ahinsah Estates, Santasi New Sites, Broni Krom and Kwadaso Estates, among other locations.
The six suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko, alias Kawawa, 23; Hadi Samed, alias Toronto, 20; Issahaku Musah, alias Isak, 23; Suraj Mohamed, alias Baba Nde, also known as Trouble, 27; Hadi Abdul Majeed, alias Panie, 23; and Foster Owusu Afriyie, alias Joe Fraizer, 45.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, disclosed the arrests while addressing journalists on Monday, August 31, 2026.
He said the arrests followed intelligence gathered by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit as part of efforts to identify individuals believed to be connected to the alleged criminal network.
Police searches conducted during the operation also led to the recovery of several items which have been retained as exhibits as investigations continue.
The police further arrested Augustin Agyemang Duah, a resident of Adum PZ, who is suspected of assisting some members of the alleged syndicate with mobile phones believed to have been obtained through robbery.
A laptop was reportedly recovered from his residence and retained by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to the police, additional arrests were made at different locations in Kumasi, including Atonsu, Aboabo and Asawase.
Another suspect, Foster Owusu Afriyie, was also arrested at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi. Police said investigations are being conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding items recovered during searches and determine their rightful ownership.
The Police Command said some of the suspects had previously been arrested, detained and granted bail in December 2025 in connection with robbery and attempted robbery cases.
The latest arrests form part of broader efforts by the Ashanti Regional Police Command to address robbery and other violent crimes reported in the region.
The police said investigations remain ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in the reported incidents and to identify other persons who may be connected to the syndicate.
Authorities are also expected to continue working to establish the ownership of recovered items and gather further evidence before the suspects are dealt with according to law.
The arrests have drawn attention to continuing security concerns in parts of the Ashanti Region, where residents and businesses have previously expressed concerns about robbery incidents.
The Police Command has maintained that intelligence-led operations remain an important part of efforts to identify suspected criminal networks and improve security within communities.
As investigations continue, the six suspects remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
