American rapper and singer T-Pain has filed a lawsuit against Konvict Entertainment, the record label co-founded by Ghanaian-American musician Akon, alleging that he is owed $489,047 in unpaid royalties.
The lawsuit was filed in Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia and represents the second time T-Pain has taken Konvict Entertainment to court over royalty-related matters.
T-Pain, whose real name is Faheem Rashad Najm, claims the label breached the terms of a recording agreement he entered into in 2005, as well as a settlement reached in 2025 to resolve an earlier legal dispute.
According to the lawsuit, Konvict Entertainment received approximately $1.3 million in royalties from a music distributor in March 2026 for sales generated during the second half of 2025.
T-Pain claims his agreement entitles him to 75 per cent of the net royalties received by Konvict Entertainment from distributors for his record sales.
The rapper alleges that Konvict Entertainment paid him $489,047 in June, but that additional money he believes he was entitled to remained unpaid.
According to court allegations reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, part of the royalty payment was transferred to an affiliate label, BuVision, which is not named as a defendant in the current lawsuit.
T-Pain claims his representatives were subsequently directed to seek the outstanding money from the affiliate, but that their attempts were unsuccessful.
The rapper is now asking the court to order Konvict Entertainment to pay the remaining amount he says is owed, in addition to other relief sought in the lawsuit.
The latest dispute follows an earlier lawsuit filed by T-Pain against Konvict Entertainment in 2018.
That case involved allegations that the label had failed to pay certain amounts and provide royalty accountings connected to his music. Konvict Entertainment denied liability but eventually agreed to a $114,000 settlement in 2025 after years of mediation.
The 2025 settlement reportedly covered royalties collected through the end of 2024.
T-Pain’s latest lawsuit claims the new dispute involves royalties generated after that period and alleges that the label has also failed to comply with obligations under the settlement agreement.
Konvict Entertainment is the sole defendant named in the latest case.
As of the latest reports, neither Konvict Entertainment nor T-Pain’s lawyers had publicly responded to media requests for comment on the new lawsuit. The allegations contained in the lawsuit have not been established as facts by a court.
T-Pain signed with Konvict Entertainment in 2005 and became one of the prominent artists associated with the label during the early stages of his career.
The Grammy-winning artist has released several successful projects and is widely recognised for his use of Auto-Tune and his influence on contemporary R&B and hip-hop.
The latest legal action now places the long-running royalty dispute between the musician and the record label back before the courts, with the outcome to be determined through the legal process.
