The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted an articulated truck allegedly carrying 5,164 compressed parcels suspected to contain narcotic substances, leading to the arrest of three people.
The interception was carried out on September 14, 2026, after the police reportedly received intelligence indicating that a DAF articulated truck was transporting suspected narcotics concealed in compartments within the vehicle.
According to the police, officers searched the truck and discovered the suspected substances hidden in concealed compartments. The vehicle, bearing registration number GE 3906-15, was subsequently impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
Three individuals were arrested in connection with the consignment. They have been identified as Abdul Razak Adamu, 35, a driver; Jubril Amidu, 33, a mechanic; and Aliu Adamu, 33, also a driver.
A fourth occupant of the truck, identified as Adamu Iddi, reportedly escaped during the incident. Police have since launched efforts to apprehend him and establish whether other individuals were connected to the consignment.
The three arrested suspects were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court on September 17, 2026. The case was presided over by Justice Dr Moses Bedima Duut.
Following the court proceedings, the three suspects were remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before the court on October 15, 2026.
The police said the suspected narcotic exhibits have been secured to support further investigations. Authorities are also working to determine the identities of other individuals who may have links to the consignment.
The interception forms part of ongoing efforts by the Oti Regional Police Command to combat suspected narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the region.
The command has urged members of the public with credible information that could assist the investigation to share it with the appropriate authorities.
The allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to investigation and due legal process. The discovery of suspected narcotics and the arrests do not, by themselves, establish the guilt of the accused persons.
