NDC goes into tree planting
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has resolved to go into tree planting to help resuscitate the depleting forest cover in the country.
This was disclosed by the party’s General Secretary Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia at the 27th Anniversary Lecture of the NDC in Accra on Thursday, 20 June 2019.
Mr Nketia said the party has partnered the Forestry Commission to assist them with seedlings to grow more trees to help in provision of more oxygen.
He further noted that the party will not only plant over 3,000 trees across the country but will also ensure that the trees grow to serve the purpose for which they were planted.
The founder of the party, former president Jerry John Rawlings ahead of the June 4 celebrations planted a tree along the island separating the road between the Ghana Standards Board traffic lights and the Legon traffic lights.
The exercise was organised to encourage Ghanaians to re-embrace tree-planting as a way of life, to mitigate the effect of climate change and promote a cooler environment.
