LIVESTREAMING: DVLA Boss Julius Neequaye Kotey Takes Turn at Government Accountability Series

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has taken his turn at the Government Accountability Series, a government initiative aimed at providing the public with updates on the performance and activities of state institutions.
The session, scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., provides a platform for the DVLA chief to discuss the authority’s operations, service delivery and ongoing efforts to improve driver and vehicle licensing services across Ghana.
The Government Accountability Series is intended to strengthen transparency and public communication by allowing government officials and institutional leaders to explain their work, highlight progress and address issues relating to their respective organisations.
The DVLA plays a significant role in Ghana’s transport sector, with responsibility for driver licensing, vehicle registration and promoting good driving standards. The authority is also mandated to help ensure that vehicles operating on public roads meet the required roadworthiness standards.
Under Kotey’s leadership, the authority has pursued initiatives involving digital transformation, expanded service delivery and improvements to its administrative processes.
In April 2026, the DVLA reported clearing 444,000 outstanding driver’s licences and printing an additional 77,659 new licences in 2025. The authority also outlined plans to expand its 24-hour services, improve customer communication and introduce technology-driven systems to strengthen its operations.
In September 2026, Kotey disclosed that the authority had expanded its nationwide presence to 62 offices after opening 29 new facilities within 18 months. He said the expansion was intended to bring services closer to the public and reduce the influence of middlemen in the acquisition of driver’s licences.
The DVLA has also pursued changes to vehicle registration and number plate administration, with the stated aim of improving vehicle tracking, regulatory compliance and road safety.
Kotey’s appearance at the accountability series offers an opportunity to communicate the authority’s progress and explain its priorities to the public. It also provides a platform for Ghanaians to follow developments in licensing services, vehicle registration and reforms affecting motorists.
The specific announcements and figures presented by the DVLA chief during the October 12 session were not available in the information reviewed for this report.
