Ato Forson Promises to Outline Ghana’s Economic Future in 2027 Budget

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has promised to outline the government’s plans for Ghana’s economic progress when he presents the 2027 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament next week.

In a message shared on Facebook on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the Finance Minister said the upcoming budget would explain how the country could move forward and translate the gains made through economic recovery into improved living conditions for Ghanaians.

“I will show you how Ghana moves forward next week,” he stated.

The 2027 Budget is scheduled to be presented to Parliament on Thursday, November 12, 2026. It is expected to provide details of the government’s priorities and proposed interventions for the country’s next phase of economic development.

According to Ato Forson, the government’s focus must now move beyond restoring economic stability to ensuring that the recovery produces tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

He stressed the need for the creation of decent employment opportunities for young people, improved incomes for farmers and a business environment that allows companies to expand their operations and employ more workers.

The Finance Minister indicated that the government intends to use the progress made in stabilising the economy as a foundation for broader economic transformation.

A major component expected to feature in the budget is the government’s proposed US$10 billion New Economy programme, a four-year initiative covering the period from 2027 to 2030.

The programme is expected to focus on strengthening domestic production, expanding local industries and increasing the processing of raw materials within the country.

It is also intended to support Ghanaian businesses, improve their competitiveness and create opportunities for them to grow and contribute more significantly to the national economy.

The proposed initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to move the country towards an economy driven by production, industrial development and value addition rather than excessive dependence on imported goods and unprocessed commodities.

Ato Forson maintained that the sacrifices made by Ghanaians during the period of economic difficulties must result in meaningful improvements in their lives.

He suggested that the next stage of the recovery should be measured not only by improvements in economic indicators but also by the availability of jobs, stronger household incomes and increased opportunities for businesses.

The presentation of the 2027 Budget is therefore expected to provide further insight into how the government intends to pursue these objectives and finance its development priorities.

Attention will also be on the specific policies, allocations and implementation plans the Finance Minister will announce, particularly those relating to employment, agriculture, industrialisation and private-sector growth.

With the November 12 presentation approaching, Ghanaians and businesses will be looking to the budget for a clearer indication of the government’s economic direction for 2027 and beyond.
