How Nigerian election results leaked even before voting started
The postponed Nigerian Elections has been characterized by interesting happenings with a truckload of thumb printed ballot intercepted even before the elections started stuffed
According to the the Nigeria Police Force in Kano, they intercepted a truck containing 17 sacks of thumb printed ballot papers in favour of the ruling of All Progressives Congress (APC) some hours to the earlier date for the elections the presidential and National Assembly general election.
The Kano police revealed the 17 sacks containing thumb-printed ballot papers in were intercepted at Sabon Gari area of Kano and the driver subsequently arrested to assist them with their investigations.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections to February 23rd 2019 due to some logistics challenges being faced by the commission in many states.
The electoral body said it was facing difficulty distributing sensitive electoral materials to some states of the federation according to INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu
“Following a careful review, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections will not be feasible”, he said.
Yakubu explained that the decision was taken in order to give the nation a free, fair and credible exercise.
“Furthermore, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly and FCT elections will hold on Saturday March 9”, the electoral commission chief added.
The national elections are expected to hold at 119,973 polling units across the country while collation of results will take place in 8,809 Registration Areas or Wards, 774 Local Government Areas and 36 States and the FCT.
