Friend Mistaken 60-yr-Old Hunter For Deer, Shot Him Dead
A 60-year old hunter has been shot to death in the Numereso Forest at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region after his friend mistook him for a deer.
The deceased, who has been identified only as Yafo went into the forest to hunt with one Kwame Agyei.
While in the forest, Mr. Agyei spotted what he thought was a deer on a mountain, about 400 meters away and shot it.
As he approached to pick the dead animal, he saw a torchlight, which Yafo lying lifeless on the ground.
The suspect later reported himself to the Obuasi Police after the incident and was handed to police in Jacobu.
He was interrogated and taken to the forest, where he helped the police retrieve two locally manufactured single barrel guns belonging to him and the deceased.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting police in investigations.
Jacobu District Police Commander, Superintendent Abdullai Iddriss who confirmed the incident said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the St. Peters Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy.
