Nkosuohene of Anwomaso Traditional area Nana Kwaku Siaw has said that he is not pleased with how authorities of Ghana Cocoa Board are going about the free cocoa mass spraying exercise.
Nana Kwaku Siaw who again holds the position as the CEO for Kumah Farms and Training Centre set the record straight in an interview with THE PRESS RADIO that spraying insecticides given to farmers by authorities for the exercise are not enough for some cocoa farmers.
A number of cocoa farmers who work on large acres of land he noted are currently at a disadvantaged position because insecticides they receive from Ghana Cocoa Board are insufficient to cover their cocoa plants.
He continued in his lamentation that because they (cocoa farmers) don’t receive the required amount, they end up spraying their farms halfway, leaving the others(cocoa plants) untouched.
He made a quick addition that insecticides prescribed by authorities for the exercise are not available on the markets and that cocoa farmers after running out of the prescribed spraying chemical end up falling on a different insecticides to cover the remaining areas.
Nana Kwaku Siaw who was honoured as 2004 National Best Farmer advised that insecticides should be distributed based on the sizes of cocoa farms to help make the mass spraying exercise more relevant to farmers in their bid to effectively manage Cocoa pests and diseases as well as improve the quality of cocoa beans.
